Celebrate at the Magical Christmas Arbor
Holiday light displays are one of the best ways to spread Christmas cheer, and Chula Vista has an enchanting one. Every year, the Living Coast Discovery Center creates a stunning Christmas Arbor lined with thousands of twinkling lights. As you walk through the arched arbor tunnel, you’ll be dazzled by the sight of 50,000 colorful bulbs lighting up the pathway. The display also features illuminated snowflakes, giant ornaments, light-wrapped critters like pandas and reindeer, and a gigantic walk-through ornament perfect for family photo ops. The Christmas Arbor offers a magical experience for visitors of all ages. You can even cap off your visit by roasting marshmallows and sipping hot cocoa around one of the center’s fire pits. UTC Ice
If you’re looking for festive fun outside the house, lace up your skates and hit the ice! UTC Ice is a seasonal ice skating rink located at Westfield UTC mall, providing the perfect opportunity to skate under twinkling lights. The rink is lined with cheerful holiday decor, and upbeat music adds to the festive atmosphere. Skaters of all levels are welcome, so it’s a great place to skate with family, friends, or even go on a holiday date. UTC Ice is open November 18, 2022 through January 16, 2023. Purchase tickets online in advance since sessions often sell out, especially closer to Christmas. After skating up an appetite, refuel at one of the many nearby mall restaurants. Applaud Dancers at Winter Fantasea
For a performing arts take on the holidays, add Winter Fantasea to your must-do list. Presented by South Bay Ballet, this annual tradition brings the spirit of the season to life through dance. You’ll be impressed as classically trained ballerinas perform scenes from The Nutcracker as well as contemporary takes on holiday classics. With elaborate costumes and choreography set to festive music, it’s a feast for the eyes and ears. Winter Fantasea will be held December 16-18 at the Chula Vista Civic Theatre. Runtime is approximately 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission. Make an afternoon or evening out of it by grabbing dinner at a nearby restaurant before or after the show. Mother Goose Parade
A holiday tradition going on 79 years strong, the Mother Goose Parade is a time-honored event perfect for families. Marching bands, floats, balloons, and Santa himself make their way down the streets, filling onlookers with wonder. The parade route runs along 3rd Avenue starting at H Street and ending near J Street. Prime viewing spots fill up fast, so arrive early to claim your spot. Many families bring camping chairs and blankets to spread out picnic-style. The 2022 Mother Goose Parade takes place on November 20 starting at 1:00 p.m. Entry to watch the parade is free for all.
